Grocery shopping is one of those everyday tasks that can make a big difference in how smoothly our kitchens run. Today I'm sharing my latest Walmart and Sam's Club grocery haul, along with a little about how I plan to use what I purchased.
Over the years, I've learned that having a well-stocked kitchen doesn't mean buying everything at once. For me, it's about knowing what we use regularly, shopping with a purpose, and making the most of what we already have.
Why I Shop at More Than One Grocery Store
I don't purchase everything from one store. Instead, I use different stores for different needs.
Walmart is convenient for grocery pickup and everyday items. Sam's Club is another place I shop for larger quantities of foods and household staples that we use regularly.
I also shop at Costco and Azure Standard for some of our bulk pantry purchases.
The important thing is knowing which purchases make sense for your own household. Buying in bulk isn't necessarily a bargain if you can't use the food before it goes bad!
My Walmart Grocery Haul
This Walmart pickup included a variety of foods for our everyday meals, including fresh vegetables, fruit, dairy alternatives, tortillas, and other grocery staples.
Some of the items included:
- Fresh broccoli, romaine lettuce, carrots, and bell peppers
- Avocados, kiwi, and other fruit
- Corn tortillas
- Almond milk
- Canned tuna and salmon
- Other everyday grocery items
These are the kinds of ingredients that give us flexibility throughout the week.
Fresh vegetables can be used in salads, simple side dishes, and meals built around ingredients we already have in the pantry or freezer.
I especially like having fresh produce washed and ready to use. It makes putting meals together so much easier.
My Sam's Club Grocery Haul
My Sam's Club order included a combination of bulk purchases, pantry items, and fresh foods.
Some of the groceries included bananas, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, mini cucumbers, peanut butter, and other pantry staples.
I like shopping in larger quantities for things we know we'll use. But I also try to be realistic about how much our household actually needs.
One little update from this shopping trip: the butter I ordered wasn't included in my pickup, so I received a refund.
That's another good reminder to check grocery pickup orders when you get home!
How These Groceries Fit Into My Meal Planning
I don't always plan every meal around a completely new grocery list.
Instead, I like to start with what we already have.
I keep three pantry areas:
My kitchen pantry: Everyday ingredients and foods we reach for regularly.
My extended pantry: Extra canned goods, dry ingredients, and bulk purchases.
My long-term pantry: Foods we've preserved or stored for longer-term use.
When I shop, I think about what needs replenishing, what fresh ingredients we need, and what meals I can prepare using what is already available.
This helps me avoid unnecessary purchases and makes cooking from scratch more manageable.
A Few Grocery Shopping Habits That Help Me
Here are some simple habits that have made grocery shopping easier over the years:
- Check the pantry, refrigerator, and freezer before making a shopping list.
- Plan meals around ingredients you already have.
- Compare prices and package sizes before buying in bulk.
- Purchase fresh foods in amounts your family can realistically use.
- Keep commonly used pantry ingredients stocked.
- Prepare some produce ahead of time to make meals easier during the week.
- Stay flexible! Sometimes the best meal is the one you can make with what you already have.
None of this needs to be complicated. A few practical habits can make a real difference.
